Notă biografică
Earl Derr Biggers (1884-1933) was an American novelist and playwright best remembered as the creator of Charlie Chan, one of the most recognizable fictional detectives of the early twentieth century. Born in Warren, Ohio, Biggers graduated from Harvard University and began his career as a journalist before turning to fiction and the theater. He achieved early success with his novel Seven Keys to Baldpate, which was adapted for the stage and screen numerous times. In 1925 he introduced Honolulu police detective Charlie Chan in The House Without a Key. Biggers went on to write six novels featuring Chan, combining traditional mystery plotting with international settings, humor, and carefully constructed puzzles. The enormous popularity of the books led to a long-running series of motion pictures and made Charlie Chan a major figure in popular detective fiction. Biggers died in 1933 at the age of forty-eight.
