Felix, un tânăr artist talentat, se teme că identitatea sa — fiind de culoare, queer și transsexual — îl face „prea marginalizat” pentru a avea parte de propriul final fericit. Această nesiguranță este exacerbată când un coleg anonim îi expune public trecutul, declanșând o dorință de răzbunare care, paradoxal, îl conduce spre o mai bună înțelegere a propriilor sentimente.
Stilul narativ este unul stratificat, combinând tensiunea unui mic mister (identitatea agresorului) cu introspecția sensibilă a unui adolescent care navighează prin hățișul primei iubiri. Merită menționat că, spre deosebire de alte lucrări ale autorului, cum ar fi seria de fantezie Chaos King sau debutul Hurricane Child, acest roman ancorează temele explorării de sine într-un cadru contemporan foarte specific și vulnerabil. În familia Meet Cute Diary de Emery Lee, dar cu o temă actuală și mai ascuțită: impactul dureros al „deadnaming-ului” și modul în care arta poate deveni un instrument de vindecare. Credem că ritmul cărții este susținut excelent de triunghiul amoros neașteptat în care ajunge Felix, oferind o perspectivă nuanțată asupra relațiilor moderne, fără a cădea în clișee didactice. Este o lectură despre curajul de a fi vizibil într-o lume care uneori preferă să nu te vadă.

Kacen Callender is originally from Saint Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. Kacen has a BA from Sarah Lawrence College and an MFA from the New School's writing for children program. They are also the author of the young adult novel This Is Kind of an Epic Love Story and the middle grade novel Hurricane Child, winner of the Stonewall Book Award and Lambda Literary Award.
