Recenzii
It is truly a treasure-trove of knowledge about Europe. What appealed most to me is that you illustrate the intellectual and cultural background to what students and visitors now see-putting everything into a historical perspective that make current events understandable.
The second edition is a vast improvement over the first, both in appearance and in content.
Macdonald's Europe is a wonderful compendium of history and culture, combined with practical travel tips. Readable, well-organized, and most enjoyable, this book goes beyond the typically superficial tour guide to delve into the ideas and historywhich enlivened the Europe which helped give birth to Western Civilization. A rare combination of philosophy and e-mail addresses for travel bureaus, Europe demonstrates that a book can be both intellectually fulfilling and utterly useful.
Professor Macdonald's book on Europe gives us something we don't ordinarily get in one volume: literate, historically-informed, succinct information, presented with real zest. This is an animated, trustworthy guide.
