EDiR - The Essential Guide

The main objective of this new edition is to facilitate the learning of radiology through a handbook that includes all disciplines of radiology. It is aimed to guide young trainees from the beginning of their radiology training and help them in the preparation of the European Diploma in Radiology (EDiR).
The 2nd edition features new cases in all the subspecialities, now including also Hybrid Imaging, Informatics (with some information regarding Artificial Intelligence) and Physics.
The book is intended to be a reference in the field of radiology providing a standardised study opportunity of the specialty following the outline of EDiR. The content has been selected and supervised by the members of the different committees responsible for the examination.
Each chapter is structured in three sections similar to the European exam: a first section with Multiple Response Questions (MRQs), a second section with Short Cases (SCs) and, finally, cases of clinicalreasoning (CORE).
The reader is exposed to questions and problems as they arise in the European examination. It covers technical, security and management aspects, all of which are included in the European curriculum and which form part of the content of the exam.

Notă biografică

Laura Oleaga became EDiR Scientific Director of the European Board of Radiology (EBR) in 2018. She attended the School of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain, and completed her radiology training at the Hospital Donostia in San Sebastian. Following her graduation, she trained as a Research Fellow in Magnetic Resonance Imaging at the Department of Radiology, University of Pennsylvania, USA, and subsequently completed her PhD at the University of the Basque Country. In 2009, she was appointed Chair of the Radiology Department of the Hospital Clínic in Barcelona, where she had previously worked as a neuroradiologist. She continues to work as a neuroradiologist at the diagnostic imaging center (CDI) of the Hospital Clínic and is currently the director of the CORELAB at the Barcelona Clinic Coordinating Center (BCCC).
She has served as a Professor of Radiology at the University of Barcelona and has been involved in many research projects. Her main scientific interests lie in the fields of Neuroradiology and Head and Neck Imaging, and her research focuses on clinical applications of imaging. Prof. Oleaga has authored or co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers and nine book chapters. Additionally, she is an active educator at many prestigious universities, scientific meetings and courses, as well as an active member of many scientific societies and organizations. From 2002 to 2006, she served as Vice-President of the Spanish Radiological Society (SERAM), and from 2006 to 2008 as Chair of the Scientific Committee of SERAM. From 2015 to 2018, she was Chair of the Education Committee of the European Society of Radiology (ESR).

Süha S. Özbek
Süha Süreyya Özbek, MD, was appointed to the member of the Standards Committee of the European Diploma in Radiology (EDiR) in 2019, in which he has been working as the chairperson since 2021.
After his graduation from the Ege University Faculty of Medicine (Izmir, Turkey) in 1985, he completed training in radiology in the Ankara University in 1991. In 1992 he started to work in the Department of Radiology in the Ege University first as a staff radiologist, then as a faculty member until his retirement as a professor in September 2023.
