Easy Weaving with Supplemental Warps: Overshot, Velvet, Shibori, and More

Autor Deb Essen
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 29 ian 2023
Imagine being able to weave overshot along the length of your cloth with just one shuttle or being able to weave terry cloth towels for your bath. All this and more is possible on just four shafts by using a supplementary warp. Back by popular demand, this sought-after book hasn't been available for a long time. The revised and expanded edition features nearly twice as many projects as the original book, with five all-new projects and a new weaving structure. Handweavers will learn weaving expert Deb Essen's easy warping method, how to turn drafts for one-shuttle weaving, and Deb's tips and techniques for warping a supplementary draft successfully. Once you have the warping down, weave any of the projects using the weave structures Deb teaches you. Each project explores a different supplemental warp structure, from turned overshot and monk's belt to Bedford cord and even velvet. And no second back beam is required for your loom!

Comentariile autorului

  • Lots of interest among weavers in supplemental warps. At the time this was written, it was the only book exclusively for weaving with supplemental warps. I also offer instructions that I developed for threading the loom and setting up the warps that make life so much simpler for weavers.
  • Only other book on weaving with supplemental warps was a self-published book (not on NPD) by Barbara Walker, Supplementary Warp Patterning. Available only on Walker's website:  Order Books by Barbara J. Walker, Fiber Artist (barbarajwalker.com).
  • Handweavers interested in exploring weave structures that use supplemental warps.
  • Revised edition adds five new projects, one new weave structure, and a section highlighting a velvet-weaving (by hand) studio in Italy.
  • Originally published by Interweave (F+W Media) in 2016. The original run of 1,400 hardcover copies sold out within a year and a half. It was then available as an e-book. F+W sold its book division to Penguin Random House in 2019, but this book was not reprinted and was not included in the Penguin Random House catalog. The rights reverted to the author (Deb Essen) in August 2020.
