The Lorrid Police Department is shaken up because the first murder in 5 years has happened. The people of Lorrid are on edge because two of the detectives on the case are a corrupt prince, Jen, and his lifelong slave, Ron. To get some real investigating done, the Chief of Police banishes Jen and Ron to investigate a fool's errand in the Quadrants, a poverty-stricken offshoot of Lorrid. As the murder case unravels for the Lorrid detectives, the complex life on the Quadrants unravel for the Prince and Ron, and long forgotten origins come to light for a slave.
