Discovering Words: English French Cree

Autor Neepin Auger
Paperback – sep 2020
Updated paperback introduction to everyday words in English, French and Plains Cree for children ages 3-5.

Neepin Auger's Discovering Words pairs colourful illustrations with simple vocabulary in three languages, giving preschool children an accessible way to compare English, French and Plains Cree. The paperback format is designed for slightly older children who are beginning to recognize printed words and build connections between pictures, sounds and meaning.

The book places Indigenous-language learning alongside two widely used Canadian languages and includes pronunciation support for adults and children who may be encountering Plains Cree for the first time. Its visual structure creates opportunities for naming, repetition, comparison and conversation during shared reading or early classroom use.

This updated edition is intended for children ages 3-5 and is suited to families, preschools, libraries, classrooms and Indigenous-language education. It combines early vocabulary development, visual learning and language visibility in an accessible format for repeated practice.
