The approach of this rhetoric/reader involves workshops, along with dialogues that engage students with the selections they read, other writers, themselves, and the audience they are writing for. Through these written and spoken dialogues, students develop insights into what they are saying, what they mean to say, and how to say what they mean. Each major chapter is based on a writing project centered around readings on a particular theme (e.g., going to college, reading the news, becoming educated, ethnic identification, etc.).
