Design: Postmodernism
Autor Shane Reiner-Rothen Limba Engleză Hardback – 13 apr 2027
Postmodernism was a reaction to the austere forms and unrelenting rationalism of modernist architecture and design: flat-roofed, concrete buildings and uncomfortable tubular steel chairs. Working from the late 1970s to the1980s, postmodern architects and designers rejected function for function's sake, infusing their buildings, chairs, interiors, and decorative art objects with humor, irony, and light-heartedness instead.
This handy guide brings the movement to life through over 60 key pieces that captured a moment of global rebellion and anarchic fun, from the Memphis Group's bold furniture to the exaggerated architecture of Philip Johnson and Michael Graves. Opening with an introduction by a leading design expert, it takes readers from California to New York, London, Paris, Milan, Stockholm, and Prague. Along the way, you'll discover the creatives and craftsmen who left an enduring design legacy, from elegant living room decor to the bold urban and technological architecture that defined an age.
