This study in the history of concepts is dedicated to the discussion in late Classical Antiquity between Christians and their contemporaries on Divine Providence (Pronoia). The conviction that God was concerned for the world was generally current at the time. Controversy in the philosophical discussions of the 2nd and 3rd centuries revolved around the question of how God's activity should be seen - as a general pattern of sense, as good order or as individual care.
