Use the relationships in your life to break free from depression
Struggling with low mood or depression? If so, you're far from alone and this book can help. Depression can be crippling and, at times, recovery may seem like an unattainable goal. However, with the right treatment, you can rediscover the pleasure in your life once more. This practical guide uses techniques based on Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) which uses story-telling (exploring and recounting our stories of depression) to help you to gain a fuller understanding of your depression, to identify the relationships that are most likely to impact on your recovery, and to improve your communication skills in order for you to be able to improve key relationships.
IPT is an effective and increasingly popular treatment for depression. It works from the assumption that the relationships in our lives can have both a positive and negative impact on our mood, particularly when we are suffering from depression. By improving relationships where there may be tension, either exacerbated by depression, or perhaps even causing it, we can alleviate the symptoms and address the underlying causes of depression.
Includes
· Practical exercises and techniques
· Case studies
· Worksheets to monitor your progress
· Planning for the future: relapse prevention
Dr Roslyn Law is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and depression expert.
