Deep Brain Stimulation: Indications and Applications

Editat de Kendall H. Lee, Jin Woo Chang, Charles D. Blaha, Hojin Shin, Yoonbae Oh, Tyler Oesterle, Kristen M. Scheitler
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 13 oct 2026
Deep brain stimulation (DBS), as an interventive neurosurgical procedure, has now advanced beyond the treatment of movement disorders and now covers epilepsy, pain, and psychiatric disorders also. Additionally, a better understanding of feedback-loop systems has led to the development of closed-loop devices such as the Medtronic Percept, which can measure electrophysiologic signals. Implementing these novel technologies will no doubt lead to further advances in our ability to help patients with both neurologic and psychiatric disorders. The interdisciplinary approaches that most centers now use to provide DBS and neuromodulation is also important.
This textbook on DBS has been brought together by an international faculty to provide a forum that summarizes the history, indications, potential complications, and alternatives. Similar to the first edition, many of the chapters are a result of the work from Mayo Clinic Neural Engineering and Precision Surgery Laboratories. The textbook will serve as an overview of the field for novices, remind experts of where we have been and where we are going, and inspire further developments in this field.
