Death by Relic: Shropshire Mysteries, cartea 2

Autor Saskia van der Zee
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 30 ian 2026
The murder was staged to shock, and it succeeded. A body has been discovered at the Shropshire Geoscience Trust, spread-eagled beneath a twelve-foot mammoth skeleton, drained of blood, and stabbed with Bronze Age artefacts in what looks disturbingly like a ritual sacrifice. DI Georgie Fraser has a venue full of suspects-the bitter ex-fiancée, a professional rival, a man nursing a grudge that stretches back to boarding school days, and a trail of women who'd suffered at the victim's hands-but the elaborate staging tells its own story. Someone wanted this man humiliated, and the killer may not be the person who landed the fatal blow. As Georgie unpicks layers of academic fraud, old abuse, and fierce maternal love, her partner Marianne finds herself uncomfortably close to the investigation. In the tight-knit villages of the Shropshire hills, where ancient landscapes hold long memories and everyone knows everyone's business, the truth is rarely straightforward-and protecting someone you love can make you capable of terrible things. Perect for readers of Ann Cleeves and Elly Griffiths who enjoy atmospheric, character-led crime fiction.

Notă biografică

Saskia van der Zee first fell in love with the rugged beauty of the Shropshire Hills through the Lone Pine adventure stories she read as a child. Today, she lives in their heart, and their wild beauty inspires her writing. Her love of crime fiction runs deep. She grew up reading her grandfather's old Agatha Christie paperbacks-some of the few English language books at the family home in Bilthoven, The Netherlands. From Christie, she progressed through the work of Ruth Rendell, P.D. James, Patricia Cornwell, Ian Rankin, Colin Dexter, and many more. This lifelong immersion in the genre has given her both an understanding of the crime fiction tradition and the tools to create her own distinctive voice within it.After gaining an undergraduate degree in Medieval History from the University of Oxford and working in teaching and the arts, Saskia turned her focus to the craft that had been her lifelong passion: writing. She completed a Creative Writing MA with Distinction and began working on the novels that would become The Shropshire Mysteries, fusing her two great loves-the Shropshire landscape and crime fiction. With a passion for both creative control and learning new skills, she embraced independent publishing and set up Dove Cottage Press with her partner in Septemebr 2026.
