After losing her leg at age thirty-five, Katie searched for romance novels featuring characters with disabilities, only to find stories that were often inaccurate, rooted in pity, or focused on "fixing" disability through love. Determined to change that narrative, she wrote Sugar's Dance. When readers embraced Sugar and her story, Katie discovered her passion: writing novels that portray the disability community as loving, capable, complicated, and beautifully human.
