Kit, a fourth-grade teacher returns to her hometown for her brother's funeral and to close up his book store. She finds clues that his death was not accidental. She and her new-found friend set out to find the murderer. Woven through the story is the influence of the Mexican mob's drug trafficking. She also falls in love with the town sheriff, but soon suspects he is the murderer. Her discoveries lead to the most important discovery of all -- herself.
