All four books of the Dani series are now available in this single edition-the story of a teenage girl's coming of age as she begins to grasp the gross dishonesty of a world that seems to hate everything that's good. But when it comes to dishonesty, the big question is this: can she be honest with herself? At fifteen, she's seventy pounds overweight. Her only dance partner is her girlfriend, her only boyfriend is Tom Selleck whose poster is pinned to her bedroom ceiling, and her only merits come from the As she gets for writing dishonest essays to please her English teacher. Borrowing from Abraham Lincoln, Dani's is the story of a girl caught up in the dogmas of the stormy present only to find they are inadequate and will surely lead her to Nowheresville...if she doesn't act.
The story begins when Dani crashes her grocery cart into Marian's, and suddenly she's facing an all-grown-up Little Red Riding Hood. All she has to do now is stay with her, keep asking questions, keep Marian talking, and listen.
But listening to advisors isn't everything. Somehow, somewhere between the covers of her story, Dani must decide whether she believes in herself or not; in her community or not; in America or not. That is to say, her future, her community's future, and America's future.
What do you think about the future? Will there be a safe space for hope and dreams? Will there be a place for love? Will there still be a song to sing?
