Melisende is a fish out of water after relocating to a small community in the Oregon desert. Just as she's beginning to feel at home, she comes upon a grisly multiple car wreck and four shattered bodies on an isolated road. The crash offers plenty of opportunities for the apprentice mortician - but when the bodies are stolen from her mortuary, she is suspect number one. Then, lawyer Kendrick Pride arrives on the scene and Melisende begins to see that there's much more to this story than meets the eye. As the shadows gather and the mystery deepens, Melisende must race to find the truth.
