The blues singer Ursa is consumed by her hatred of Corregidora, the 19th-century slavemaster who fathered both her grandmother and mother. Made sterile in a violent fight with her husband Mutt, Ursa Corregidora is determined to seek revenge for the crimes of violent men. Her search for independence is stark and shocking. Recenzii

Corregidora is a poem to black men and women. It is an ode, howbeit painful, to all the participants in the American Experience
James Baldwin 'A small, fiercely concentrated story, harsh and perfectly told
An American writer with a powerful sense of vital inheritance, of history in the blood
The sexual writing - and this is a book with virtually no other subject than sex - is a model of grace and taste
