Decades after Shakespeare wrote his "Coriolanus," Calderón produced his own take on the story of the Roman general, the Sabine women who live in Rome, and the Sabine army threatening to invade it. As is often the case in the Spanish Golden Age comedia, themes are explored that are still being tackled in modern society.

This edition is part of the Critical Translation series established by Juan de la Cuesta Hispanic Monographs in 2013 to bring classic Spanish drama and prose to an English speaking audience. Dakin Matthews brings a unique twist to the series with his vast Shakespearean knowledge and performance background.
