Converging Waters
Fotografii de Dan Hillert Text de Gwen Curryen Limba Engleză Hardback – sep 2020
Converging Waters focuses on Queen Charlotte Strait, Broughton Strait, Cormorant Channel and Blackfish Sound, a marine landscape on the northern coast of Vancouver Island within the traditional territory of the 'Namgis First Nation. Tree-covered islands, pebble beaches, fog, rocky islets and constantly changing light define a place where boats remain essential to daily life.
Daniel Hillert's photographs concentrate on the coast's visual character, including orcas, eagles, shorelines, sea and sky. Gwen Curry's accompanying prose adds history and human context, considering the people who live in the region as well as fishing, settlement and contemporary pressures on a place whose marine life often seems larger than its human presence.
The result is both a photographic portrait and a regional reflection, suited to readers interested in Vancouver Island, coastal British Columbia, marine environments, Indigenous place and landscape photography.
