Control = Safety
Why do we cling so tightly to control? For many, the answer lies in a deep-seated belief that control equals safety. But what if the very thing we rely on to feel secure is holding us back?
In Control = Safety, author Justin R. Williams traces his own relationship with control back to a single night in 2011 - a car accident, followed two days later by news that would change his life again. From that moment forward, control became his safety net: behind the wheel, in the air, across a spreadsheet he still keeps to this day. This book is his honest, ongoing account of what it looks like to live inside that need for control, not from the far side of having it all figured out, but from someone still doing the work.
Drawing on real moments from his life - a white-knuckled flight through turbulence, a hard-won lesson in delegation at a Guitar Center display counter, the fear passed down from his mother's own history, and the night he and his wife let their daughter stay at a friend's house for the first time - Williams explores where our need for control actually comes from, and what it costs us when we hold on too tight.
Through honest reflection, grounded psychological insight, and practical tools he uses himself, Control = Safety invites readers to identify their own hidden triggers, understand the emotional and physical toll of always needing to be in control, and find out what's waiting on the other side of letting go.
Whether you struggle with anxiety, perfectionism, or the constant pull to plan every detail, this book offers a real, still-unfinished path toward redefining what safety actually means, one small act of trust at a time.
Are you ready to let go and trust the process?
