Contextual Christology: Voices from World Christianity and World Religion

Autor Edmund Chia, Gemma Tulud Cruz
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 13 mai 2027
Edmund Chia and Gemma Tulud Cruz survey non-Western and marginalized Christologies, juxtaposing beliefs from across Asia, Africa, and South America with feminist and migrant Christologies.

Most books on Christology do not capture the Christological perceptions of believers from the Global South and fail to adequately include the postcolonial and intercultural voices which have developed in light of the ascendancy of global Christianity. In this book, Chia and Cruz center those historically overlooked voices, prioritizing the rich interfaith and intersectional beliefs produced by global Christianity.

By zooming in on diverse, global Christologies, each of the eleven chapters survey a particular geographical, cultural, or identity-based Christology. By beginning with conventional, Western voices within Christology and branching out into global beliefs, this book compares and contrasts mainstream and marginalized perspectives on the nature of Christ, salvation, and religious practice. In doing so, Chia and Cruz provide an introduction to how various cultures from across the world integrate Christianity and conceptions of Jesus Christ into their specific religio-cultural context. As a work of contextual Christology, this book places contemporary, global Christianities within their respective historical contexts, tracing the origins and unique belief systems which shape each locale's beliefs.
