Cognitive Hypnotherapy

Autor Thomas E. Dowd
en Limba Engleză Hardback – oct 2000
This book integrates cognitive therapy with hypnotherapy and provides principles and illustrations of hypnotic routines that can be used in changing cognitive self-statements, cognitive processing distortions, and tacit cognitive structures. It extends the imagery work previously used in cognitive therapy into a complete and comprehensive hypnotherapeutic approach to help people change negative and self-defeating cognitions into more positive and adaptive ones. Dr. Dowd demonstrates the use of cognitive hypnotherapy in treating various disorders, in reconstructing memories, and in helping normally healthy individuals overcome blocks to more effective performance.

Recenzii

This is an excellent and balanced overview of theories and techniques of hypnotherapy, with special emphasis on their relevance to contemporary forms of cognitive therapy. A respected authority and scholar on this topic, Dowd also demonstrates his clinical acumen in describing when and how hypnotic techniques can be useful. I highly recommend this book.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy provides clinicians with an empirically validated framework in which to assess, intervene, and evaluate their work with clients. This book is a must-read for clinicians interested in further developing their skills.
This is a seminal book in cognitive therapy. Dr. Dowd provides us with an excellent theoretical foundation for hypnotherapy, drawing upon a variety of therapeutic models. Dowd is to be commended for his balanced and integrative approach to psychotherapy and hypnosis. He provides detailed, practical guidelines for the use of hypnotic techniques in psychotherapy and then indicates how these techniques may be applied to anxiety disorders, stress, depression, habit disorders, and life enhancement. This is a thoughtful, insightful, creative, and important contribution that will be of great interest to therapists from a variety of orientations who are interested in enhancing their effectiveness in treating difficult problems.
