Choose Your Response
Autor Michael Rogersen Limba Engleză Paperback – 27 iul 2026
Most people spend years running the same painful loop without ever seeing it. Pain hits. We bottom out. We look for an escape and reach for a behavior that brings relief. The relief feels good, briefly. Then the consequences arrive and deliver us right back to the pain. Choose Your Response calls this cycle the Pain Wheel, a pattern first encountered in addiction recovery work but one that turns up everywhere: in marriages, in workplaces, in families, and in the private stories we rehearse about ourselves.
Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional.
The pain of a hard life event is not a choice. But the suffering we construct on top of it, the story, the replay, the verdict, is built one reaction at a time. And between what happens to you and what you do next there is a gap. Everything you care about is decided there.
In this book, you will learn how to:
- See the six-station Pain Wheel that drives your reactions, and find where your own pattern lives on it
- Separate the pain you cannot avoid from the suffering you build on top of it
- Widen the gap between trigger and response with a practiced pause
- Take back the only two things you control: your actions and your attitudes
- Question the story your brain tells when it locks onto a problem
- Step down from the judge's bench and stop prosecuting old wrongs
- Choose who you are becoming, so drift does not choose for you
You cannot control what happens to you. You can control what happens next. If you are tired of running the same loop, this is the way off the wheel. Get your copy today.

Notă biografică
Dr. Michael J. Rogers has spent his career answering one question: why do smart, well-intentioned people keep reacting in ways they regret, and what does it take to stop?As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Qualified Supervisor, board-certified master's-level addictions professional, Nationally Certified Counselor, board-certified sex-offender treatment provider, and educator, licensed in multiple states, he has worked with people at every stage of being stuck. His clinical and forensic work spans the counseling room and the courtroom, with a focus on the everyday struggles that follow people home: conflict, resentment, anxiety, the stories we build on top of our pain as well as addiction and recovery. Again and again, he watched clients discover the same truth. The event was never the whole problem. The suffering they carried was built in the space between what happened and how they responded, and that space belonged to them. His doctoral research put that conviction to the test, developing a cognitive reframing curriculum for incarcerated individuals to see whether people in the hardest circumstances could change their trajectory by changing their interpretations. They could. If change is possible there, it is possible in a tense kitchen, a resentful commute, or a 2 a.m. spiral. Whether working with individuals or couples, young and old, that finding runs through his whole practice. He also teaches graduate students preparing to become counselors, which keeps him honest: nothing exposes a fuzzy idea faster than a room full of sharp students.
