Shuggie Bain meets Stand By Me in a bold and atmospheric YA coming-of-age novel from award-winning Stewart Foster.
Seventeen years old, in a city he doesn’t know and on the edge of a future he can’t quite picture, Chris is lonely. Has been ever since moving to Aberdeen with his mum and her waste-of-space boyfriend. Has been since his dad left years before that. Then he meets Lucas, a boy who doesn’t speak, and suddenly life feels a little less grey. But when Chris and Lucas get lost during a cycling race across the Scottish Highlands, they discover that the world can be darker than they ever expected. And when all looks lost, sometimes it takes a friend to help you find the sun again...
Gripping, heartfelt and ultimately joyful, this beautifully written adventure from an author at the top of his game explores male friendships, mental health and the blurred boundary between boyhood and adulthood.
