Notă biografică
John Dickson Carr was an American mystery writer celebrated for ingenious puzzles, impossible crimes, and richly atmospheric detective fiction. Born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, in 1906, Carr spent much of his adult life in Britain and became closely associated with the Golden Age of detective fiction. He was one of the few American writers admitted to Britain's prestigious Detection Club.Carr created several memorable detectives, including Dr. Gideon Fell, Sir Henry Merrivale, and the brilliant French investigator Henri Bencolin. His mysteries frequently combine apparently supernatural events with carefully constructed rational solutions. A prolific novelist, short-story writer, playwright, and radio dramatist, Carr became one of the foremost practitioners of the locked-room and impossible-crime mystery. He died in 1977.
