This briefing framework for secondary school projects incorporates secondary school revisions to Building Bulletin no. 82 (ISBN 0112709214), setting out non-statutory area guidelines for secondary school buildings and grounds. The document aims to help school staff and governors, along with the Local Education Authorities develop a masterplan and brief for building projects, whether they are newly designed or the refurbishment of existing buildings. Standards for the number, size and type of classrooms, which take account of pupils with special educational needs and disabilities, can be cross-checked with the simple graphs and formulae set out in this document.
