The Conquer came slowly, then all at once. Nearly three centuries later, the mortals of the Continent still live beneath Fae rule, where every five years the Redundancy Trials determine who is permitted to Continue...and who is judged no longer necessary.
Just as Jane, Lead Laundress of River North, rebuilds her quiet life, this year's Trials are upon her, and the mood in the Hall of Justice is one of open disdain and blatant contempt. But long-buried knowledge and unforeseen affections will unravel everything Jane thought she knew about the world around her. Soon she must choose between two powerful kinds of love: love for another, or love of one's country, even as both threaten to ask more of her than she may be able to give.
Bridges, book one of The Redundancy Doctrine series, is a slow-burn adult romantic fantasy about healing, testing the boundaries of loyalty, and how a single act of mercy can challenge an empire.
