The artist Norman Thelwell (1923-2004) is best known for his horse and pony cartoons, but his work ranged far beyond that familiar subject. He applied his remarkable talent to a wide variety of themes, using wit and sharp observation to deliver both humor and social commentary.
Brat Race, first published in 1977, offers a comical look at the world of children and the joys, trials, and absurdities of parenthood. With hilarious accuracy, Thelwell captures children's behavior in all its mystery and unpredictability, while also offering gentle, humorous advice for anxious parents and well-meaning relatives.
From names, toys, and birthday parties to pets, health, and happiness, every aspect of childhood is depicted in the artist's unmistakable and entertaining style.
