Published in 1931, Brauer and Wittkower’s catalog of Bernini’s drawings remains among the most influential and frequently cited books ever issued by the Bibliotheca Hertziana–Max Planck Institute for Art History in Rome. Like an oracle, it set a new standard of study in the nascent field of baroque design.
