Bedtime for Garbanzo is a rhyming tour through a garden at nightfall, where vegetables and fruits get their own tender goodnight. Cabbage curls into a cozy nightshirt of leaves. Okra stretches through one last lullaby song, and a giant pumpkin dozes off without a sound/ Each spread pairs a plant with a small bedtime ritual that's funny and true. After bell pepper cuddles in bed for a bedtime story, garbanzo falls asleep with a wink and a nod, and there is baby with seeds planted for a night of sweet dreams. The final pages gives a good night closing a parent can say word for word:

This is the debut picture book from Gillian Confair, a children's storyteller, theatrical stage manager, and yoga teacher, brought to life by artist Heegyum Kim — whose popular drawing books have earned her an Instagram following of over 140,000. Kim's warm, textural, and gently mischievous illustrations, built up with pastels applied through eyeshadow applicators and makeup sponges, give every page the soft, hand-touched feeling of a goodnight hug. Together, Confair and Kim have made a bedtime story that's as cozy to read aloud as it is to look at.
