Becoming Emmi

Autor Holly Ross Fotografii de Dean Curtis, Yvonne Suess
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 27 oct 2026 – vârsta până la 12 ani
What happens when a wild horse has to learn a whole new way of life? Emmi was born in the Missouri Ozarks, part of a free-roaming wild horse herd. The wild was her home. The herd was her family. Then, in 2022, her life changed. Emmi was adopted and began the journey from wild horse to beloved companion.
>Along the way, readers get a glimpse into a part of Missouri they may not even realize exists: wild horses living in the Ozarks. Emmi's story also opens the door to conversations about wildlife, conservation, responsible herd management, and what adoption really means for an animal leaving the life it has always known. But at its heart, this is a story about adapting to change. Children (and adults) know what it feels like to face something new--starting school, making friends, moving, welcoming a new pet, or simply finding themselves somewhere they don't quite belong yet. Emmi offers a reassuring reminder that it's okay to be unsure, it's okay to need time, and learning to trust doesn't happen overnight. And perhaps most importantly, becoming something new doesn't mean forgetting where you came from. The wild horse Emmi once was is still part of the horse she becomes. Becoming Emmi is a true Missouri story about a wild horse, a new beginning, and finding a place to call home full of hope, friendship, and love.

Notă biografică

Holly Ross is an educator and photographer who draws inspiration from the natural world. Their passion for wildlife photography began with documenting the Missouri wild horses that roam the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, including Emmi, a member of the Shawnee herd. A juried photographer with the Best of Missouri Hands, her work has been exhibited in shows, featured in Midwest Living magazine, and even sold at Hobby Lobby. Observing wild horse behavior over the years has deeply informed her handling and training of Emmi, adopted in 2022. As a grandparent, Holly treasures the opportunity to share Emmi's story with their family and hopes to inspire children everywhere with themes of hope, friendship, and new beginnings.
