en Limba Engleză Paperback – 12 mai 2027

BEARS: A Wilder View is a collection of expressive bear portraits by award winning Canadian artist Patrick LaMontagne, blending painterly realism with warmth, humour, and personality in artwork often described as "cartoony, but real."

Whether it's a playful expression, a sideways glance, or a look viewers instantly recognize, the paintings explore the connection people often feel toward animals through familiar expressions and emotion. Alongside finished artwork, the book also includes sketches, reference photos, and behind-the-scenes glimpses into the creative process behind LaMontagne's distinctive approach to wildlife art. The first in a series of art books showcasing the best of LaMontagne's wildlife art, BEARS is his first book with Renegade.

Notă biografică

Patrick LaMontagne is a Canadian cartoonist and digital painter living in the Bow Valley of the Canadian Rockies with his wife, Shonna. After more than three decades in Banff and Canmore, the mountain landscape and wildlife around him continue to inspire his work.

Having not attended art school, LaMontagne began drawing digitally in the late 1990s using one of the first available Wacom tablets, long before digital painting became commonplace. He first built his career as a nationally syndicated editorial cartoonist with newspaper clients across Canada.

In 2009, as a creative detour from political cartooning, LaMontagne painted a grizzly bear in a style that would unexpectedly change the direction of his work. That single painting launched a growing collection of whimsical wildlife portraits now recognized for their personality, humour, and expressive charm. Artwork collectors often describe LaMontagne's style as "cartoony, but real."

Whenever possible, LaMontagne gathers his own wildlife reference while exploring the Rockies, with many of those encounters later inspiring his paintings. Each piece is created entirely by hand on a blank digital canvas and built through hours of brushwork focused on expression, character, and emotion.

His award-winning artwork has been licensed internationally and collected by wildlife and art enthusiasts around the world. But whether painting in the quiet early morning with coffee and music playing in the studio, or meeting collectors face-to-face at markets and conventions, his favourite part of the work remains the same: creating art that makes people smile.
