Be a Mountain

Sanni McCandless Honnold's mom used to wear a shirt that said, "Be a mountain, not a mountaineer." It took years of adventuring for Sanni to understand what that meant. Now, as a mother herself, she hopes to pass down the idea of becoming, rather than overcoming, the natural world. Sanni is a life coach with a deep love of the outdoors and is well known for appearing in the award-winning documentary Free Solo alongside her husband, Alex Honnold. Whether it's climbing a mountain or snuggling up under the stars, she believes in the power of nature to challenge and inspire us. Be a Mountain is her debut picture book.

Stevie Lewis remembers her first time climbing a mountain- feeling unsure then finding her courage to the summit. She has been chasing that feeling ever since. After leaving her job in animation, she sold everything she owned, built out a van, and traveled across North America with rock climbing gear and a sketchbook. She is now an author-illustrator of children's books and lives in western Montana with her husband and son.
