John R. Newport graduated from Purdue University in 1983 with the Ph.D. in theoretical physics. Following graduate school, he worked for 11 years as an avionics consultant for the U.S. Department of Defense, gaining national recognition as an expert on embedded computer resources. He is the founder and president of the Systems Analysis Group, a private consulting firm. Dr. Newport is a member of the National Council on Systems Engineering, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Society of Auto[1]motive Engineers. He has authored numerous technical reports and papers on embedded computer architecture and design. Also, he is a commercial pilot with instrument and multi-engine ratings.
