Atlantic Anthems

Atlantic Anthems looks at eight songs that have come to be classics in Atlantic Canada. All of these iconic songs raise issues of importance in the story of the region. Rita MacNeil's "Working Man," for example, is a window into her extraordinary life and the remarkable and often dangerous world of coal mining in Nova Scotia. Lennie Gallant's "Peter's Dream" raises issues concerning the fishing industry that is an integral part of the economy and culture of Atlantic Canada. Other songs discussed include "Farewell to Nova Scotia," "Barrett's Privateers," "Sonny's Dream," "Bud the Spud," "Helene," and "Snowbird."
