Asian Catholicism and Migration: A Historical Case Study of Telugu Migration in Colonial India: Studies in Global Catholicism, cartea 03

Autor Martin Joseph
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 7 ian 2027
Confront the defining paradox of our time: the clash between the cosmopolitan dream of a ‘global family’ and the harsh realities of nationalism, landlessness, and the ‘sons of the soil’ narrative. This volume explores how faith and organised religion anchor migrants through these crises, specifically examining Telugu migration and Jesuit history between suppression and restoration. Drawing on unpublished historical data and situating the microhistory of the Telugu community within the framework of global Catholicism, it traces how the Telugu migrants survive while retaining its roots. By analysing the trajectory of Telugu migrants’ past and present, this work offers an idea that a united human family is possible, transcending borders and cultures while preserving distinct community identities.
