Annie is a story of a real person who lived in America during some historically significant times: the last quarter of the 18th century and much of the 19th century. She lived most of her life in the frontier territory of western Pennsylvania, wary of hostile Indians and just trying to survive. Late in her life she even had a chance encounter with president-elect Abraham Lincoln.
