Angels Underground

Niko wrote and illustrated their first book "The Frog is Hopping" at 8 years old, which received critical acclaim from their toddler cousin. They went on to get a BA in creative writing and terrorize classmates with their angsty poetry and edgy verse until their path veered completely off the rails to become an MD instead.Their next years were filled with a late coming of age into queerness and trans identity, circus, drag, gogo dancing, epic love and epic failure, hustling, risking, a bit of success despite minuscule odds.Clawing through the harsh culture of medical training and the harsher reality of life and death in the wards has left them with a deeper appreciation for art. They've watched the turning point, the end, and the beginning of many stories and recognized the imperfect thread of love holding all wounds together. It led them back to writing, though pieces more cozy and fantastical, and all the more dire for it."Angels Underground" was written during the bleakest time of medical training, intern year. It was tapped out between disasters in what felt like one endless night shift, when the world seemed full of people trying, for whatever that was worth.
