Anatomy of the Eclipse chronicles the approach - and arrival - of a period of civic darkness. From the war in Eastern Europe to the spread of violence and lawlessness, Hinsey's new volume tracks the danger signals of a world advancing towards tyranny's edge-light. Yet, while oracular and oblique, these poems also quicken something in us, prior and utterly secure, an aspect of being that remains unintimidated by the portents of darkness. These poems also brace, embrace, and fortify, probing our potential for renewal through affirmation and compassion. "In the face of colossal menace, Ellen Hinsey, the truth-telling seer we need at this 'ruthless hour' of detainment and compromise, urges us past 'the expertly orchestrated chaos' [...] toward genuine fortitude and mercy. In Anatomy of the Eclipse, Hinsey offers us [...] a far-reaching, consistently prescient poetry - of lamentation, protest, and salvage so lucid it becomes prophecy, shareable wisdom:"
