Shriver's hard-headed realism about radical evil prevents him from offering naive sermons that simply condemn the enmity that exists among individuals, groups and nations. Shriver lives in the real world along with the rest of us.
a much needed and well-argued concept of forgiveness as an essential ingredient in political reconciliation...this is a deeply disturbing book because it faces us with ultimate human dilemmas.
There is plenty of grist for the moral mill here. Will it, can it, yield an ethic for enemies?
