Gerald Davis is married to a woman in witness protection. Her ex-husband was the head of a Chicago crime family. He has her tracked down to her home in the Hollywood hills and killed along with her and Gerald's two children. Gerald goes to Chicago where he becomes an investigative reporter for the Chicago times.
