Claire is a feisty and loyal fifteen-year-old who took on the responsibility of caring for her elderly grandmother. She appears to cope but has anxiety attacks and sometimes resorts to "cutting" when feelings of being alone overwhelm her. Life dramatically changes when Claire's grandmother dies. Claire must leave her old house, best friend, and school to move in with her newly married brother Andy and his wife some distance away in another area of New York City. Soon after, Andy shares a well-kept family secret - their mother did not die when Claire was a baby. She abandoned them. Andy believes their mother may still be alive. But does Claire, feeling betrayed and angry, want to help him find her? And what if they did? Could Claire forgive her mother for abandoning them? Would having a mother in her life help Claire overcome her anxiety attacks and finally help her feel she is no longer alone?
