The snap of a twig breaks the silence. Shuffling in the nearby bushes sounds loudly before the night becomes quiet and still again. The hunchback shows no surprise. "Come on out. I saved some stew, only if you're hungry, of course." The old woman calmly offers to the darkness beyond the fire. Slowly, two small shadows move out of the dimness and hesitate within the light that the fire throws out. "Will you help us Grandma?" A girl of six years steps forward and asks. The older male child grabs her shoulder, stopping her from getting any closer.
