Advancements in Carbon Dioxide Capture and Utilization Technologies: Catalysis Series

Editat de Andy Antzaras, Angeliki Lemonidou, Stavros Alexandros Theofanidis
en Limba Engleză Hardback – 23 dec 2026
The deleterious effects of climate change, predominantly driven by elevated atmospheric CO2 concentrations resulting from extensive fossil fuel consumption, are now evident globally. Despite the urgency of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, current energy systems and fossil-based fuels remain integral for the global economy and are anticipated to persist in the foreseeable future. Carbon capture and utilization technologies offer a promising approach to mitigate CO2 emissions from various sources and convert them into value-added chemicals, creating a circular carbon economy.
Advancements in Carbon Dioxide Capture and Utilization Technologies explores the latest scientific breakthroughs in implementing CO2 capture and utilisation technologies, that can transform CO2 from a major greenhouse gas to a building block for the production of value-added chemicals and fuels. Readers will find a comprehensive overview of recent developments, challenges, and future directions in this field, making it an essential tool for researchers working in the fields of green chemistry, environmental engineering, energy, renewable fuels, and circular economy solutions.

Notă biografică

Andy Antzaras is a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the Chemical Engineering Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He received his Diploma (2012) and his PhD (2018) in Chemical Engineering. He has been working in the fields of process intensification, reaction and materials engineering. His research interests mainly involve synthesis and applications of advanced materials, characterization, reaction engineering studies as well as preliminary process design, with particular focus on CO2 capture technologies and intensified reforming processes for hydrogen production.
Stavros-Alexandros Theofanidis is CTO and co-founder of AristEng, an engineering firm located in Luxembourg. He received his Diploma in chemical engineering on April 2013 from the Chemical Engineering Department of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and his PhD on October 2017 from Ghent University. His current research activities are focused on emerging technologies for CO2 abatement, light olefins production, plastic waste valorisation, plantwide process design and life cycle assessment.
Angeliki Lemonidou is Professor of Chemical Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Director of the Petrochemical Technology Lab and has served as School Head (2020-2022). She is collaborating faculty member of CERTH/CPERI. She graduated (summa cum laude) from the Chemistry Department and pursued Doctorate studies in the Department of Chemical Engineering. Her research interests are in the area of catalysis and reaction engineering aiming at the development of new materials and processes with minimum carbon footprint on natural gas valorisation, biomass conversion and carbon capture and utilization. Her expertise lies on the synthesis of materials (catalysts and sorbents), mechanistic studies and kinetic modelling.
