Actually, Nevermind

Autor Taylor Tomlinson
en Limba Engleză Paperback – 9 sep 2027
“One of the most acclaimed, in-demand superstars of comedy” (Jason Zinoman, The New York Times) Taylor Tomlinson explores all the things she’s changed her mind about, from the serious to the absurd, in her hilarious, heartfelt, and brilliant debut.

As she approaches thirty-four—the same age her mother, Angela, was at her death—Tomlinson grapples with fear and ambition, identity and doubt, and all the ways her mind has changed since the day her mom died.

In these sharply observed, uproariously funny, and moving original essays, Tomlinson leads readers through a tour of her brain and her shifting opinions about everything from love and relationships, mental health and therapy, religion and sex, food and body image, being the eldest daughter and the only woman in late-night TV, to ghosts, morning people, and more.

With the same unflinching honesty that fuels her beloved stand-up specials, she captures the dizzying contradictions of adulthood in the modern world: wanting independence while craving reassurance, chasing self-improvement while resisting change, and finally learning that certainty can be overrated. “True wisdom,” writes Tomlinson, “is accepting how little you know, and real maturity is becoming as flexible as possible. (Emotionally, not physically. Real maturity also means needing to stretch way more).”

A “fearless” (NPR) comedian who “makes even the heaviest subjects seem spikily funny” (Jason Zinoman, The New York Times), Tomlinson now brings her natural storytelling gifts and incisive wit to the page in Actually, Nevermind.

Notă biografică

Taylor Tomlinson has been performing comedy since the age of 16, when her father signed them both up for a stand-up class. Having been raised in a devout Christian family, she performed mainly in church basements and school venues, until a top-ten placement in NBC's Last Comic Standing catapulted her career into the big leagues. She now has four Netflix stand-up specials to her name - Quarter-Life Crisis (2020), Look At You (2022) and Have It All (2024) - was the host of the CBS late-night show After Midnight (making her the youngest person and lone woman on late-night TV) and had one the 10 highest-grossing stand-up tours.
This is her first book.

Actually, Nevermind is a collection of sharply funny, deeply honest essays from comedian Taylor Tomlinson, on the art of changing your mind. From once holding black-and-white beliefs shaped by a strict religious upbringing and early grief, to now embracing the glorious mess of nuance, Taylor charts her evolving worldview - both the profound and the ridiculous. With self-deprecating humour and flashes of wisdom, she reflects on everything she used to be certain of (and now isn't), offering a candid take on growing up, staying flexible, and giving yourself permission to rethink everything. In a world full of noise, this book is a warm, witty balm for anyone trying to figure it out... again.
A 'fearless' (NPR) comedian who 'makes even the heaviest subjects seem spikily funny' (Jason Zinoman, The New York Times), Tomlinson brings her natural storytelling gifts and incisive wit to the page in this hilarious debut.
