The narrator's mind in Rick Ridgway's novel is indeed Ablaze- a conflagration of reveries, self-recriminations, and incendiary critiques of contemporary culture. His pyrotechnical monologue illuminates a week-long reunion with his old friend, Frog, his woebegone Sancho Panza, as their reunion unravels with a series of misadventures. Spiked with verbal exchanges covering the gamut of movies, music, art and literature, we follow Ray and Frog as they reminisce and plan a road trip that may just expiate Ray's guilt and the hope of a second chance.
