In a society with a clear social order based on religious beliefs and family background, everyone is supposed to know his place. Sophie and Prem live in the same neighborhood, they attend school in the same town, their families are cordial towards each other, and everything is as it should be. Except that the two young people fall in love with each other.

First time author, language teacher and watercolorist Janine Desvaux has travelled the world teaching, exhibiting her art work and learning. In August 2010, she returned from Dakar, Sénégal where she had taught English and Art in aprivate Senegalese/French school over the past four years. Mother of two daughters, grandmother of three grandsons and one granddaughter, she now resides in Virginia.
