Spring comes to Maddie Sparks' village and with it, something not so pleasant-the murder of the owner of the local junkyard. Few will miss the man. His junkyard was an eyesore, and the man was an offensive individual rumored to be involved in a number of illegal schemes. When Maddie's friend Jane becomes a suspect in the murder, she hires Maddie and Maddie's partner, ex-sheriff, Zack Montgomery, to clear her name. Maddie and Zack take on the case although Maddie's life is already busy with her writing and helping plan her granddaughter's upcoming wedding as well as setting a date for her own nuptials with Zack. To add to her already full schedule, her granddaughter asks for help with a friend whose family is about to face deportation. Maddie attends to all these issues with her usual people skills, but her ability to get others to confide in her uncovers a side of the junkyard owner more shocking than anyone realized. Revealing the truth about his life will reveal the killer, but it also will bring pain and heartbreak to a family.
