The main character, a small muskrat girl from Muskrat Town, discovers how valuable her talents are to her friends and to herself. Maddie Mandy becomes the heroine of her community by saving her group of friends through using her special physical ability when they become trapped in a cave. Her thinking ahead and preparing for their adventure pays off with their lives. It is a story about the value of using good planning in daily life, keeping parents informed, and developing and using one's talents.
